Some of the story choices that this show makes often frustrate me, but I’ll give it credit for this: it certainly isn’t afraid to drastically change the setup when required. Right, time for the second half of the first half of season three! After season two of Once Upon a Time I decided not to keep doing episode-by-episode reviews of the show as I no longer found myself hugely invested in the storylines or the characters (half my favourites were gone, the moral framework of the show was incomprehensible, and I couldn’t care less about whatever Greg and Tamara were up to). So I watched this last night and was a little surprised on perusing the message boards this morning that the reception to Once Upon a Time’s spin-off was rather lukewarm. The pilot episode wasn’t wonderful (excuse the pun) by any means, but I found it relatively charming and reasonably well put-together - some caveats notwithstanding.

Well, that’s that. Season two is over and though there were a few surprises here and there, I’m not hugely enthused about the prospect of the next season. When it airs on New Zealand television, I may well wait the extra few months in order to marathon the whole thing on DVD.

So this episode was... pretty bad. There have been some dodgy episodes before, but this is the first that has been bad on a number of levels, so much so that it’s actually highlighted how not-good this show has been for a while now...

Well, I’m going to make this a three-in-one considering I’ve been away for a few weeks and this trio of episodes actually worked very well together as a sort of mini-trilogy set in the middle of the show. They focused on three of our main female characters: Snow White, Cora and Regina and gave us our first look at Snow White’s mother Eva.
